I remember
tired, weary eyes
closing at the day’s end.
A hug shared as friends –
relief at the end of a grueling
all—nighter.
And I held on
to the tenderness that
belied the fierce way you pressed
a secret kiss upon my hair.
I thought I heard a silent plea,
a whispered confession.
I let it lull me,
as you held me near you
and I waited for the morning.
